That really sucks eh? Our basement drain backed up when we did a load of laundry,thought the washer was broken, but when we figured out what it was had to call a sewer guy and the tree roots have grown into the pipes so he cleared it as best he could for now but says it will happen again. not as bad as yours was but also sucks, thank God no damage,it didnt make it to the carpet. Hope everything goes all right for you guys and Merry Fucking Christmas.
